Here you will find 24 hour care for your pet from our top tier Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons accredited veterinary hospital.

Our Nailsea Hospital not only provides all our normal branch services, but is also the location of our out-of-hours service and all our advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities.

Feel free to pop in or give us a call if you would like to buy food, flea and worming products or other pet items. We can also help with advice on feeding, routine health matters or any other aspect of keeping your pet happy and healthy.

Routine consultations are available at this branch seven days a week to help those of us who have to juggle a busy life or have difficulty getting to an appointment during the week.

Routine operations are available six days a week

We are pleased to offer this facility to people who find it difficult to get to the hospital during the week, or would like more time at home with their pet after their routine operation.

Nailsea out-of-hours service

Nailsea - reception 3Based at our Nailsea hospital, we run our own out-of-hours service because we believe it is an essential part of caring for your pet.

You will be asked to come to Nailsea if you require help or treatment during out-of-hours, because this is our centre of excellence.

If you need any help or advice during out-of-hours, our team of nurses and vets are there to help you. They will have access to your pet’s records, whichever branch you normally visit, and our full diagnostic services at all times

Home visits

We understand that home visits are sometimes the most appropriate way to deal with a situation and these can be arranged during the normal working day.

For emergencies, the vet in charge will make a decision based on each individual case. However, we normally advise you to come to the hospital as we feel that’s the best way we can help your pet.

Although, please ring us first to let us know you are on your way.

In an emergency situation, a quick response to your pet’s injuries could often mean the difference between life and death. For this reason, we would advise you to safely transport your pet to our hospital as quickly as possible. The time it takes our vets to get to your home, could be utilised more efficiently by preparing to treat your pet at our hospital where we have all the resources we need to help you.

Also, our vets do not carry any drugs or medical equipment in their cars so we hope you understand that in most emergency situations there is very little we can do in your home.

Accredited veterinary hospital

Nailsea - theatreAs a practice, we first achieved the top level of accreditation nearly 50 years ago and we have maintained the top standards ever since.

The standard is set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons who establish the criteria by which we are assessed. We are assessed regularly to ensure that we meet them.

This is a totally independent assessment which proves the level of veterinary care we can provide. For this reason, you are assured that you have chosen the best practice to look after your pet. 

Other practices do have lower levels of accreditation, but Golden Valley Vets are proud to be the only one in the area to achieve the very top level.

Supply of drugs and repeat prescriptions

We do our best to keep a wide range of drugs in stock at each branch. However, as we hope you will appreciate we cannot stock everything.

Should you require additional supplies of a drug that has been prescribed for you, please complete the form or contact your usual branch.

Thirty six hours’ notice is required for all repeat drugs requests.

For us to dispense drugs, or for a written prescription, your pet needs to be ‘under our care’.

In most cases, this means that we must have physically examined your pet within the last six months. However, certain conditions may require more frequent reviews in order to ensure the safe supply of certain medications. 

The cost for a prescription review is a normal consultation fee.

This protocol is in place to meet our regulatory obligations, but more importantly to safeguard your pet and we ask you to support us in this.

The cost of developing drugs is extremely high and getting them approved for use in animals or humans is a very expensive process. For this reason, the number of drugs that are approved for animal use is relatively small.

As a result, vets are often in a position where there are no specialist animal drug to use for a specific condition. For this reason, you may be asked to sign a consent form for a drug to be used in an off licence situation.

Please do not be alarmed – this is a normal course of veterinary treatment and we will only suggest drugs that have been tried and tested in practice for a long period of time.

Please rest assured that under the directive of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate we will always supply a veterinary product if one exists.

Return of drugs

We are required by our governing authorities to ensure that all drugs we dispense have been stored at the correct temperature, even during transportation. This is to ensure that their efficacy has not been compromised.

We are sure that you would only want to be supplied with drugs that meet this criteria. For this reason, we are unable to refund drugs once they have left our premises.

DogTraning

Dog training at Nailsea

To fully enjoy your dog you must be confident that it will behave at all times, so that all you need to do is have fun together.

We cannot over emphasise the importance of early training and thoroughly recommend joining one of our puppy training classes arranged through Gemma at Daybreak Dog Training.

The classes are held at Nailsea and Gemma also does one to one training and remedial training should you have missed out when your dog was a puppy.

Bereavement

Nailsea - bereavement roomAll the staff at Golden Valley have their own pets and we all have experienced the pain of losing them. So we have tried to give some thought to how we can ease the process.

At Nailsea, we have a special room set away from the main consultation rooms which we hope gives a more homely environment for you to share your last moments.

You will then be able to take as much time as you like to say goodbye and you are welcome to take advantage of the seating areas outside in the garden to collect your thoughts.

This is a very important part of your relationship with your pet, so please talk to us and we will do all we can to help give your pet the end that gives both of you the most comfort.

We can also advise on the various options offered by our cremation services and bereavement support if it would help for you or your family.
